Once Upon a Time…We went to the Zoo

On their last day in Sydney we decided to head out to the Taronga Zoo. I had not been to this either, and since they had yet to see any native wildlife we figured this would be the best option, plus you get to take the ferry there and it was another beautiful day! It was bitter sweet, because I knew that they next morning bright and early they would be headed back home. We had so much fun seeing the Kangaroos and Koala’s, but unfortunately this was not a park where you were allowed to touch the wildlife. So no Koala holding for them. 😦 Truthfully we ran out of time. There is still of ton of things for them to see and do, so I guess they are just going to have to come back and visit soon. However, next time I think they should stay for a few months instead of 10 days. There you have it…it may have happened in April, but now at least it is on the blog. 🙂

Once Upon a Time…Sight Seeing was Had

We are nearing the end of my parents time in Sydney. We did lots of site seeing, but I also had to work. So on this particular day they met me at the office and I gave them a little overview into what I do. I put hair fibers into my moms hair and had both my parents try on uncut hair pieces. 🙂 They had a good time. After they office they got to try their very first sausage role and meat pie! An Aussy delicacy. 🙂 I really like sausage roles, they seemed to enjoy them too. After our rather quick lunch we headed up to the opera house for a tour of the building. That was my first time in there as well and it was SO fun to do something with them that I had not yet experienced. Unfortunately you are not allowed to take pictures in the opera house, so we made do with pictures out front.

That evening I had arranged a dinner for my parents to meet all of my friends at a local pub near my apartment. We all had such a wonderful time. I loved introducing my family to all of my new friends who have made my time here in Sydney so much fun. The best part is that they were able to meet Chris and Eliane who just so happen to be in the US and Canada right now and will be staying with my mom and dad for a few days! 🙂 I love seeing me two worlds combine and for my parents to see what amazing friends I have made here in Sydney.

Once Upon a Time…The Parents Made it to Australia!

Yes, the blog has been lacking in the last few weeks…but I have been having a really full life, which is good. 🙂 However, now that I have a little bit of free time get ready for a million posts in the next few weeks. That’s right, I am writing them all now to catch you up on the Adventures in Downunderland and will post them every few days. Thank you word press for scheduled posts.

My parents arrived in Sydney on March 26th, after leaving Portland on March 24th. Yup, they lost a day and arrived quite tired and a little bit frazzled as their luggage almost didn’t make it. Basically I got to the airport at 10:30am when their flight landed, expecting them to get through customs sometime between 11 and 11:30am. Well 11:30 came and went and still no parents, at this point I call my brother to make sure that they even made their transfer flight in Auckland. They did, so where were they. Before I know it is noon and everyone is gone and I am the only person left waiting. Right when I am about to go and find out if their flight has been all cleared out walk my rather tired, excited, and frazzled parents. The picture with gate C was my first glimpse of them on Australian soil. Yay, they made it!

I had all these great plans to get them to the hotel, shower and the jet off to many destinations. Instead they felt the need to rest…what is that?!?! I guess almost 24 hours of travel can take it out of you. So instead we sat in the hotel as they read the latest Hollywood gossip, again, find the picture above. 🙂 Once they were thoroughly rested,  we ventured down to the Harbour and the Opera Bar to toast their arrival with champagne and potato wedges with sweet chilli sauce and sour cream. Not the most classy combination, but wedges with sweet chilli is something we don’t have in the US. Soon Andrew and Kelsey met up with us for dinner in the Rocks after walker around the Harbour and getting a glimpse at the Bridge. All in all it was a wonderful first day. Two major land marks accomplished!
